Chill Out Album Launch Performance Review
YOU GUYS ROCK!!! last nite at chill out bistro was one of our greatest moments. the screams were deafening our little ears. we started to perform as the last band at around 1am. thanks to all the friends who have been patiently waiting for us since 11.30pm (knowing that our site put up 11.30pm showtime). before the show starts, we had a small table selling our CDs, posters, stickers and t-shirts. we sold 7 CDs, 3 posters/stickers and no t-shirt. thanks to ah beh, christine and paul for helping out to man the sales booth/table. we like to thank them for chatting with us while waiting for our turn to play.
house band, common culture played 2 sets before we took the stage at around 1am with songs list below:
1. sin – beyond song being played instrumental
2. robot is me & u
3. sor low (fool)
4. missing you
5. super horse (sam hui’s song – kwai ma seong seng)
6. love bubble tea
7. domido (this song is only 3 words long)
8. beyond medley (4 beyond songs being cut, pasted and performed)
9. phak chui cheng (ah, ah, ahhh~~~)
10. si ai bin (a romantic love song)
the sound was good last nite BUT the soundcheck(rerhearsal) in the afternoon from 3pm to 6pm was an incident we rather forget. one of the MOST challenging soundcheck that we had done for our last 12 years of playing. you’ll get to know a few funny character people. our metal sow gay hooi suddenly wanted to be a man to bantai one of the fellows during soundcheck. that guy was and is a real prick, kanasai. not only he was rude, he was sarcastic and a snob. and during our trip back from soundcheck at chill out (6pm), everyone on the road was rushing back to their home/hometown (for deepavali/hari raya). the city was jammed and we stucked for 1.5 hours before reaching taman pekaka where kaijiunn was scheduled to conduct drums lesson. the experience was not only horrible but exhausted driving from bumper to bumper.
the show at nite at least extinguished our fire to bantai that guy when we saw him at nite. luckily “someone” (only those at the sales booth will understand what i mean) was keeping ah hooi busy chatting or else ah hooi might probably bantai him for no apparent reason.
when we were about to start on stage, everyone was starting to pack the front stage. when the first song kicked in, it was rocking all the way through out the nite. most people enjoyed the performance. our gig might not be ideal for matured audience (40′s and above) cause we dont play many cover songs. but when we did played beyond medley, everyone was cheering and singing along… and i felt that we are actually playing in uptown pub with people singing along. well, it was nice to know that people STILL love beyond songs after all these years. we played only the old songs. those from year 1990 and before. it’s more than 15 years already. and to our astonishment, requests came to us in small bits of papers. we even sang a birthday dedication to carol from james. luckily, at least we played one beyond medley song with 4 short songs. michael suggested that we should play another beyond song – “chan teik oi nei”, but we didn’t proceed for a few reasons, there’s not much time (we performed for an hour before we knew — a few of our friends said the show was TOO short however), we wanted to make this album launch event a proper one where we concentrate on our songs and played 2 cover songs our own style. sorry if we disappointed you guys… but nevermind lah… still got other time… all you guys need to do is to wait from 11.30pm to 1am… bwahahaha…
special thanks to zack and selva for the courtesy and opportunity to let us play at chill out!
extra special thanks to these lovely people: ah beh, christine, paul, nicole, hoo khai chiat, glacius (we love u man!), schizzow (we love u too!), alex tan (our ex-bassist, now a full time drinker), ming sern, another guy with alex with spiky hair (forgot his name), ah chua (snake), ah ghee and all those friends whom i may have missed your names.
the house band (common culture) was truly nice indeed. they came and spoke with us. we spoke a little about music and life in penang. they are traveling around the world playing. they loved it so much, they seldom go back to USA. yes, they are from the USA. their site: www.commonculture.com – real pro with down to earth attitude. i spoke to toby, the bassist most. and he told me that he just bought a portable PS2 game console, ha! my favourite game console.
selva introduced me to haris – the guy from baze pub. he said our band can discuss to play at the place over there. selva also said that we can come to play again at their chill out in a month or two. he added that he has known uptown pub for many years and would introduce our band to him. man, we love selva like ah hooi love guys. it’s so strange to find selva having a very different character – he’s down to earth, nice, courteous, humble and helpful. he even offered us drinks and spent time to chat with us. he liked our show, songs and performance. it’s nice to receive a compliment from a man who has been in the show business for so many years.
See you guys tonite at Chill Out and please…
remember to memorize the lyrics so that we can sing together… i’m depending on you guys to rock the house down!!!
shout and scream with us!!! make this a memorable album launch!!!

Beyond The Story Live Video Clip

I recorded this short video clip via my si pek lao ia resolution handphone…
The song Amani which was choir-ed by the entire stadium crowd, i think this was the coolest moment as Paul Wong said, no matter what race, what religion, what purpose, WAR is destructive and bring no benefit to any party…

2 days from now, yes, its 20th October, is our friend @ supporter Glacius's birthday,
Happy Birthday and hope u play better than Steve Vai
and thanks for supporting us always.
Refusing To Leave
Although the concert has ended, most of the crowd refused to leave and shouted for encore.
Beyond never encore for the Beyond The Story Live World Tour through out the whole campaign. As always, they have their own character and unique style and attitude: no need dancers, no need very fancy costumes, no need special guest, and this time no need encore, simply because they are who they are…
I love Beyond 4ever.
