After think, think, i better write this post here.
As a music teacher, i need to constantly xerox or print music scores for my students.
As the scores were distributed one or two at a time (for a song), some students have lately asked me to “give” them the scores free.
Just a couple of weeks back, I gave a student a piece of paper (song score), and as usual, have to be “kao bin poi” to demand a 10 sen from him, then he said “Wa! Teacher why you so stingy, give me la, 10 sen only…”
So i answered: I have over 40 students, let’s say a song is 2 pages, and i distribute to 40 students, why not you give me RM8.00 for every song, so i can give the other 39 students free score every time
The bottom line is, some times it is really hard for me to collect those 10 or 20 sen, i feel weird some time but still has to be collected as xerox need money to print too. In fact, i was thinking to increase per-piece of score to 30 sen. why? Because most of my scores are self-written, not dowdloaded from Internet or photocopied from a score book.
hope every student understands, enjoy your lessons, and pay me the 10 sen….
make me so pai se only, write this post….

mike, one of the ways which u can do to counter such unpleasant demands:
- charge your lessons higher say RM5 per student per month i.e. if your student pays you RM60, increase to RM65
- compile a book and sell to them, (u go tuition, the teacher give u free books or not?). if they want to have new songs transcribed to them, do it during their lesson else u have to do it at your own time where people still doesn’t understand why they need to pay 10 cent.
- ask then to write down the score if they dont want to pay up.

haha… your ways i have tried years back. wont work…
you know what, when i was teaching at a music school in jalan stadium back in 1995 some time, there was a student took the whole book (which u suggest) give it to another teacher, and let the teacher photostat and teach his own students and made as “HIS” own work…
u must “kuan” in music education line for some time, then you know the trend… kekeke

and about increasing the fee? that is a good idea, but i am teaching in other people’s music school la, not mine, so, its not up to me to increase the fees la.
for my own student at home, i dont have that problem.
no problem any way, i will still “beg” the 10 sen every time as long as i am not cheating at all.

lobby… just tell your students that they have to pay it b4 you photostat. if they dont wanna, then no need to give them. you must create a serious situation when you are teaching. for me, i am quite serious while teaching drum. if they dont wanna pay, just ask them **** off and get another student which got heart to learn. you shall need to let your students know that you shall have no time for those time-wasters in your class.
you can save more time to figure out how to win a bet in football rather than wasting time for them without gaining anything…. hahahahaha…
this is my little opinion nia… pai seh pai seh to share out with you.

Asking 10 sen each time is like really kinda weird, moreover people now rarely bring small change out one.
I would suggest collecting RM1 from each student, then record it down every time after how many copies of paper given, once finished then just collect again.
