last sunday, my dad and i went to “cheng beng” (respecting the dead day) at pulau lamphawi, a beautiful isle off coast of kedah. just some tips to share with you guys. the ferry from kuala kedah is RM18.00 per person and it’s free seating – even there’s ticket number on it, it’s useless. when u guys purchase ferry tickets, think of it as air asia — first come first serve.reaching the island after 1.5 hours from 7.15am, the NEW ferry terminal had a cosmetic upgrade since last year. a bunch of guys came toward us asking whether we want to rent cars or hop onto taxis. we opted for the taxi. after negotiating, it’s RM14 for round-trip to the graveyard behind LADA building. by the way, LADA was the famous ferry transportation company which we loved but was closed down due to poor business.
we went to my great-grandpa grave (my father’s father’s father). he died of malaria in his 30′s. my music blood was from him. i *think* he used to be an underground headbanger playing the pipa. my grandpa played the trumpet during his younger days. my dad doesn’t play music instrument but he plays hockey, badminton, tennis, swimming and golf. i play guitar and my organ.
not many people was there to pay respect to the dead as the actual date of “cheng beng” is early april – not sure about the exact date. the graveyard is kinda big on a hill. thank angkong that yesterday’s weather was cooling.

another view.

we cleared the grave, pulled out the grass/roots, clean-up the altar and placed “donno-what” papers on top of the grave. we burnt joss sticks and hell’s money. i asked my great-grandpa for some health, peace/harmony, wealth and overall good being. especially asking for good health to my grandpa and mom.

we were there for about 40 minutes and the taxi driver was making some noise about it since we told him we gonna take about 30 minutes to complete the praying ceremony. off we go to the ferry terminal and bought a 10.30am ferry trip back to kuala kedah, reaching 12pm.
the round-trip-waiting-40-minutes-taxi costing RM14 – cheap!
