I have wanted to share this with ALL chinese educated friends here so long ago, but din have time to write, until now. So duno whether i need to thank the stupid chicken pox for this… hmmm… anyway, for those of you who dont read chinese, you can read on too, it is funny, kekeke….

Here’s the topic, everyone who reads Chinese Newspaper knows that names and places or things that are not originally in mandarin words, they are all translated into mandarin instead for the printing media. As a football craze fan and football is also my second job, i sometimes browse through websites in chinese and FxcK!, all the names of players and teams in mandarin, and for diffrent websites, or diffrent newspapers, they have diffrent translations…

The confusion is not ony limited to sports sector, it also affects the political, and even in general daily terms. Let me give you some COOL sports examples in this post and others like places, politics in other posts:

Beckham is salty???
David Beckham, do you know how many translations are there for his names?
大卫包韩, if i did not know this player before, I would think his real name was “Darway Bowhan”
碧咸 (in cantonese), this one even worse, you would have thought the footballer is “Piss Sien” sounds like “Pissing” huh, in english, the meaning of the cantonese word is Salty.
背汉/背汗/贝汉, and this is the funniest, you would think his name is “Pay Ham”, and in english, it means sweating at your back or some ladies cheating their husbands… kekeke…

Christiano Ronaldo
C罗那多, this is super funny, sometime, the chinese media is lazy and just put a C for Chrisianno, for this one, I would think the name is “See Lonato”

Roy Keane
罗坚, the nearest I could imagine is “Roger”, and not “Roy Keane”, maybe “Log-In” ?

You see, the problem with chinese media is, some times, they translate the meaning, some times they translate the sound:

Manchester United
曼切斯特联队, they translate the sound of the first word , and later translate the meaning of the second word.

but i think if they would translate the whole word, it would become: 曼切斯特  有奶的

This is called United???
How about this one?

Leeds United
利智有奶的 ???
