Do not take this lightly, it might happen to you…
We all know that for the recent months, or year, many snatch thefts have been happenning that newspaper are having hard times to find space in their papers to publish the number of crime committed. Especially in Johor or KL area.
I was reading newz on Internet again yesterday until I saw this, the PM (Snatch Thieves / Robbers) have upgraded their modus operandi and they dont go like normally tailing you on their bikes, snatch your valuables, stab you and maybe drag you on the road for metres like what happenned to a pity lady in JB just few days back…
This time, they use their car to knock you off from your bike, and beat you up, rob you, then leave you to bleed to death…
Please please please all my friends, becarefull out there, we know our towns are NOT safe anymore.
Most snatch victims are girls but that does not mean guys will not be exposed to the danger. Just look at high-profile Lee Kean Giap's case.
I also found a good post on this topic http://www.aliran.com/oldsite/charter/monitors/2004/06/of-snatch-thieves-and-theft-of-truth.html
Here are some of my thoughts that hopefully and contribute to some safety awareness and most importantly, keep everyone from being harmed by PM ( snatch thieves/ robbers):
1) We are the ones who present opportunities for the PM to prey on us. Main “attractions” are purse, small ladies' bag, gold chain, jewellery… If we can keep those things out of their sight, then the percentage of being snatched is far less. Sometimes we just have to think over it, do we need to carry that bag? Big long purse? Most teenage girls wear jeans and its advisable to use smaller wallets rather than a crime-attracting purse. Keep it in your pocket rather than holding it in your hand like many do. I understand there is a need to carry a small bag for many people, to keep their phone, purse, lipstick, tissue, keys… I myself do carry a sling bag bcos i have full of craps to carry everyday. You still can carry a bag, but with a sling over your shouder (like sling over your left shoulder and rest the bag on the  right side of your body, diagonally). If possible, do not place your hand phone in the bag, just in case the bag being snatched you still have the phone in your pocket to call medical, police, home, freinds for help. Best advice: do not carry any bag, sling bag may be dragged by snatchers and you may fall down hard, being dragged and end up with broken bones, serious injuries…
2) Avoid walking alone, or using secluded area. I remember a piece of news just recently about a chinese girl rushing down from a complex to meet her boy freind waiting outside, she used the fire stairway since she was near and it shortened the distant to reach downstairs. She was snatched at the stairway and fell to the ground, she died in hospital, Amitabha. This is so sad… Sometimes you take shortcut to save the trouble for walking longer paths, this may contribute to more serious troubles and for the above case, cost a life. Damn PM. Remember, always take bright-lid area with people around.
3) Avoid waiting alone for bus, taxi, some one to pick you up, especially if you are holding your small bag or purse which can not be placed inside your pocket (or no pocket available). If you do so, you are inviting crime to happen, first it will be an easy job for the PM, you are alone and clinging tight on your purse does not decrease the risk, in fact, clinging too tight will put your personal safety in jeopardy. Look, how many victims already, clung on to their belongings, and dragged by the PM on the road, ending up with serious injuries if not costing their lives. So, if you are alone, someone come snatching your stuff….. let go!
4) Since you have to let go your stuff if serious circumstances arise, keep your vital documents separately from your purse or wallet. ID, Dirver's Licence, Credit Card, ATM, you can store it in a plastic card holder which can be easily kept in your pocket, jacket… Off course this wont avoid being snatched but will reduce a great amount of loss. If you lost your IC (which i did 3 times, I will tell that in another post if you care to know more), you may find yourself in big trouble years later as any one can use your IC for purchasing cars, applying bank loans, many many other frauds… and most headache, you have to go to every single respective departments to apply for a new ATM, Credit Card, Licence blah blah….
5) Carry self-defence objects. Pepper spray, mace spray, sirens key chain, off cos you DONT put those items in your bag! For those of you who dont know where to get these stuffs, go here or here.
I strongly suggest you carry your house keys in your pocket, dont put a whole bunch of keys, just a few important ones like your main wooden door and the metal gate's pad lock. What can you do with the keys? Hold the key in between your index and middle finger and grab it really hard where you can unleash it as a small weapon, no joke, it is an immediate weapon and may injure the PM (especially robbers), here's how you hold it:

6) Do not write your name, house address on your car keys, house keys' key chain, this will land you in deeper shit…
7) Off cos learning self defence skills like taewondo will help too…
If you have to walk alone, walk against the direction of the road (that means right side of the road) since cars and bikes travelling on the left in Malaysia, this will reduce the possibility of being snatched from behind by a PM on a bike…
9) Walk or shop with friends unless you have to be alone on certain reasons. PM mostly preys on a loner, where he can easily run away from behind and disappear in front of you after snatching your stuff…
10) If you have any thoughts and views to contribute, pls comment.
