moving forward… s l o w l y…

we had our weekly band practise session last nite and it was crap. we did not practise for the past 2 weeks. we didn't play in our best mood, probably because of work and other projects that we need to take care of. i guess u guys can refer to previous posts that about what we are doing. there's a few commercial gigs awaiting us and in every gig, we need to prepare.

preparation of gig; whether in real show, underground gig, competition or promotion: we'll put our best in every spot on music delivery. our band practise is quite intense where we will polish our music and performance to the tiniest details. we still do but the more songs we need to cover, the less we can look into those details. good and bad.

honestly speaking, we had a serious talk yesterday… of couse ah hooi is the most serious (kekeke). mike will make some changes in october, after all these big gigs coming around and we will start to write new material/songs. we have been losing our focus/objectives these few months (1.5 years) and we need to get back on track.

we *may* still play in commercial gigs but we will be more focus on our song writing. we are DETERMINED to release our 2nd album… if after a year and there's still no progress from us, pls come back to this post and LAUGH at us. BWAHAHAHAHA… i'll be the first person to come here and LAUGH at myself, big talking c**k.

we appreciate the support that we are getting from you guys, from being fans to friends. thank you. of course there's some who may not understand the fuss of what we are doing. well, being 3 guys having the same interest, attitude to achieve our desires, extreme dirty old minds and character, we tend to do something similar. :)

UPDATED: why is our bassist ah hooi the busiest person in uglymen?

if you want to know who this girl is? go to her photo website now. she is now single, very pretty, slim, cute, hot and thinks ah hooi is not as hot as me or michael. do you think she is an awesome photographer? rock on!!!

wah… very long time no update already…

i should have updated more frequent but i guess i am bogged down with work. our brother fleaman screwed me today for not updating the website often. what he meant by update was to read about our little band news. i think he got a point when he said that cause it's been a while since we shared anything about our band development.

1st, our t-shirts are selling well without much pushing. i sold one. LOL! i think ah hooi sold none. there's another design but we gotta until the time is right to release it.

over these 3 months, we have been and are playing in some pre-merdeka gigs around northern malaysia. the gigs were a blast — they were jointly organized by SIN CHEW PRESS and MAXIS HOTLINK. we have performed in TAIPING, TELUK ANSON, SUNGAI PETANI and the last two gigs in august will be:

18-august: KAMPAR, perak
25-august: BUKIT MERTAJAM, penang

on 29-august, we are heading to alor setar, kedah to perform at the 7th month ghost festival at jalan putra starting 7.30pm with lots of local bands namely HAI LANG, WOLF TEETH, PROLOGUE, BEGINNER, X MALAYSIA etc (not sure about the rest of the bands). wolf teeth is previously known as signature and they are our close friends. their band line-up is the TALL ah yen on guitar, ah foong the guitar shredder, ah chen the long and thick hair guy, teik hong the jazz drummer and chee wei the baritone singer. p/s: they are all good looking than uglymen… bwahahaha

we have been on a side project playing with a bunch of virgin girls in x malaysia band. this is a side band consisting michael's sacred little naive girls playing guitars and singing JAPANESE POP/ROCK songs. we haven't been practising as much as we hope so because ah hooi and myself need to go back to alor setar to practise with these girls. strangely enough, i dont even know some of these girls name. if u ask me if they are cute… well… come on 29-august and see for yourself how they wail the guitars. michael is their teacher and they have been shredding the guitar for a few years and this is a big outdoor stage for them.

the side band is taking a toll on our new song writing. we have spoken too many times on how we are going to write new songs but everytime we gave lame excuses. ah hooi is forever working and working until at late at nite. when i called him the other nite…

me: @#$%^&* hooi, where r u?
hooi: what? can't hear u… wait wait wait…
me: u got practise your songs or not?
hooi: no time la… working man… a lot of work
me: aiya… spend some time catching those songs la…
hooi: ok ok, later i catch
me

: sure or not?
hooi: sure la… now no time, i at pub drinking
me: @#$%^&*@#$%^&*

the pre-merdeka gigs are cool tour for us. we got cool friends following us there: ric ah long, silverisle, chearh, ah yin, ah yang, fleaman, uncle beh beh, ah cheah (fleaman colleague), chun wei, khim yun, kelvyn, ah ching (metal sow sister) etc

after we have gone three piece, we never EVER perform in penang island. we hope one day to get into a gig here.

by the way, more gigs coming in — hooi's friend wedding in september, a gig in nibong tebal in october. we are planning for an oversea gig… but its all in the planning. let's see what we can come up with.

in the mean time, any street fighter fans out there? pls go to www.ggpo.net and download the software and i'll wait for you!

p/s: thanks fleaman for posting this.

Michael-one.com: Testimonial from Singapore

testi.jpg

it was really a surprise to receive this testimonial, as i have lost contact with her for more than 2 years. and i din know all this while some ex students, long long ago punya ex students still visit uglymen.net daily. brief introduce to you who she is: Woon Wooi Min, she is very leng loi, but never want her photo to be published (actually she oso never let me take her photo… kekeke) so every one mou ngan fok lo… she learnt guitar from 2002 to early 2006 before leaving to work in singapore. i call her “woon mystery”, cos she never let people know her contacts, and to tell you the truth, she sent this email via a friend's company email, i dont even have her email add, she just popped up when she wants to talk.

i received her mail (through rainbow) three days after publishing jan jan's mail from new zealand. once again, thank you to all who have supported me.

I have recorded a piano video, and would like to dedicate it to all my students, thank you.

Hi,

Hi Angel, pls pass this mail to Mike for testimonial . thanks

Michael! u must be very surprise to get this?!! (wat? no? :'-(  haha. I know u very happy theses days lo, so many people write u testimonials. I got read your  uglymen website every day u know? although i am busy here, I still feel like dropping you a short mail.

I read about you talking on your worth-mentioning students in last posts… you picked the wrong one liao la, how come my name is inside one… I sia soi you got la… after seeing Jan Jan write so long, so touching, I just wanted to write you an email, but hai… think think might as well write you a testimonial lo.

I still miss the time where I learn the guitar, although I must admit I never come to a level that could make you proud. I have stopped learning since coming to Singapore. Firstly, I work long hours and travelling in Sinagpore really makes me tired (though I got used to it). Secondly, I dont believe I could find another teacher like you [michael: yayaya... fat, ugly and grumbling non stop]. I will be probably settling down in Singapore soon and may only come back to Kedah maybe once or twice a year, but if I do come back, please reserve tea time with me :-)

Before I sign off, I think your readers and other students may be interested to know how I got to know you, in extra ordinary circumstances. There was a band challlenge show going on in 1999, I think is the Yamaha Band Alert or something like that. I was studying in Penang and went to KL to watch a Penang band. Michael's band was also in the competition, later, I was introduced to him by a friend, apparently an ex school mate of Michael. So, I guess all that while when I was in Penang dint get to know you, but got a chance in KL, wasnt that weird haha…

You have always been a very hardworking and dedicated teacher Michael, and I know all your students will benefit from you a lot. Thanks for all the happy moments years back.

Miss u.
