i was the chief judge at this event, and has been judging for this event through out the country for over a few years, and for those who dont know how we judge the bands and why we selected respective winners, please visit my previous postssssssss, i am lazy to re-explain, i dont think i have to anyway, however, i strongly suggest all friends who wish to take part in future band competitions (esp Yamaha Asian Beat), or, just wish to acquire some music knowledge, to read all the posts below.

a few people has questioned the results from tonight’s competition, some even criticized the panel of judges, even worse, naming some bands, in this case, i will tell you which band. he said “Poor Sapien was in the final because they are friends off the judges and organisers”… you are dead wrong man. you must be really new to Yamaha Asian Beat, because Ocean Of Fire are also friends of us, and we were part of the judging panel too last year, so no surprise Ocean Of Fire won the Penang finals… by the way, Oceans Of Fire are also very close friends of Wes Borland, because they also won both Best Guitarist and Best Bassist award in Asia Finals.
the music scene is not big like new york la brother, if you submerge yourself in the scene for some time, every body knows every one la… and lastly, Inersia X, Blackwood Project, and Rocha Zone, ARE also our friends, they are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tonight… eh… any more questions??

Wah thanks for posting the pics… cos i din know who was who among the competing bands… until now…
IMHO.. Whoever said judges are not fair are just sour grapes. Anyone who was there that nite, with a neutral mind, would agree you judges made great choices.
In fact, hor…. as a 100% neutral audience who doesn’t know anyone, and no one knows me (HAHA)….. i oso was making my personal choices of individual winners that nite and ALL fitted your choices. muahahaha!
(I also liked Blackwood Proj’s rhythm guitarist, Inerxia X’s bassist, and Karisma’s drummer. They didn’t just played well. They performed with charm.)
Karisma the band, was excellent, but as you said rightly.. if only they had an original # which is a prerequisite for AsianBeat.

one thing for sure… wear uniform la… not many bands put effort in attire…
that night only poor sapien, inersia looks smart and nice… visual plays an important role in stamping ur identity too, not to mention pleasing the judges…
pass winners lam key, oceans, enigmatic, rempeyex, ugm… all pasang kuat la… aspiring contestants need to learn this..

i have a confession to make,,,every single competition i joined, i was very good friends with all the judges. Even those from overseas and kl. In fact i wasnt worried becasue in kl i knew all the judges. I also know all the judges from penang. I know all the judges from alor setar. i also kow the worldwide judges, this year and last year and teh coming year. i also know the judges from indonesia. i also happen to know the judges who ar e to be inducted in the following five years. I know the sponsors. i also know the hosts, music world etc. i know almost every band. i also knew what gods they were praying to. besides that i know their secrets and their favourite food. i also knew…. bottomline is. if you wanna win be everyone’ friend. lol. otherwise, the next time the judges see you in a competition you wll lose straight. LOL…
