I have to make declearation before I go futher… All my posts at uglymen.net are base on my personal thoughts, feels, and my very own command and they are nothing to do with the bands – uglymen. I m also not to show off how much I know, or try to be smart in here but to share things that I know off and learn together… any thoughts, feedback, corrections are welcome.

Classical Music, when I listen to classical music first impression that come to my mind was, easy, beautiful, perfect music; then HeavyMetal music is like noisy, not easy listening to, these two are completely diffirent and the other way around. I dunnno about you guys but last time I dislike classical music becoz’ I am in love with heavyMetal…. These two cannot get alone if you like one you will be dislike the other one; That’s my feeling towards these two type of music…

Then later on, when I grow older and listen to more various type of music, I found out a lot of heavyMetal rocker when they compose their heavyRock songs many of them will take classical music’s part and place it into their heavyRock songs. The very first song the realy got my attention on classic music by HeavyMetal music was Master of Puppet from Metallica.

When I listen to this song it starts at very heavy riffs when in the middle part before going in into the guitar solos; it suddenly change from heavy to classical and pull the whole song’s feel down, first was anger, aggresive then when the middle part kicks in was sad, mellow…. the classical feel rite at there and make the song very special. I was like ….what??? Like that also can?? wow!!! really kick Ass!!! so beautiful; and this song was written out at 1986…..since then I am in love with classical music and reliase that music can be mixxed with one and another style together.

Later on, I crazy more about music and listen and listen to more and more music; I came across more and more bands…

Let me tell you guys a story, when I was young like in 1992….I was 16 years old(really young that time) I start listen to rock music during that time I was newbie and know nothing about music but juz listen. I got a group of friends when really into heavyMetal, and guess what they were all wear blacks; black tees, black jeans except long hair coz’ we were still in school…

If you want to hang around with them you must wear BLACKs!!! if not you will be asked to go back to have a change of your clothes to blacks..if you wear POP singer’s TEE you will be boycott from the gang and suspend cannot join the gang for period of time(dunno how long). In the weekend we will head to a disco name “rock world” at Penang, during that time we got tea dance things(like 2pm – 5pm) for teenager… The dj will put on two songs; Sweet child o’ mine and Entersandman… The dance floor full of chicks and guys dancing there, when these two songs being play on air; our gang will go in and HEADBANG!!! all the chicks and guys will be stay out of the dance floor…that’s the point for us for being there waiting for these two songs and headBang..then sweat…then go back….that’s was extrem….we were extremist for heavyMetal….

Now think back it’s damn funny!!!!! and very childish!!! Later couple years, when I am back to malaysia from finish up my studying at oversea around 1999 0r 2000….. I saw the same things happen in malaysia’s so call “indie music scence” or underground… They make gigs, they play orginal songs but only selected styles band will be put into their gigs. This is exectly what happen when I was kid… I felt these group of ppl lock themself into a pool; a pool that only got 1 kind of music and will never grow in musically or maybe they can grow but grow in a very narrow and not healthy ways musically. These type of ppl normally will kill off their creativity by locking up themself into a dead end by liking one 1 kind of music. 

Take Metallica my all time favorite bands as good example, from their 1st album to the 7th or 8th albums lastest one they still creating music for the music industry. From the 1st album kill em’ all till saint anger, you will hear diffirent elements from their album to album and they still rocking hard!!!

Many bands die out; they got “one hit wonder” 1st album sell very gd and then repeating the things they had done for their previous work and kill all their creativities in create sound for their band. then later disband…

For my 2 cents of thoughts, either you are in a band or bands or juz like me love music; you got to be a very open minded listener; spcially comes to write your own music; you have to listen to various types of music styles. Yet, you will be fully njoy with the joy of music if you can accept and listen to varouis type of music.

You want your band to be a good band; write more orignal music; Want to write more orginal music??? listen to more Music!!! be a very Open Minded music listner and it doesn’t matter wherether its Classcial or HeavyMetal or any kind!!!
