latest news: michael’s digital camera memory card damaged!!! no photos to share, sorry guys :(

the whole event was great. the crowd was awesome, the stage equipments were incredible and the GIRLS were the best!!! i must have been staying at home for too long already cause i never seen so many cute hot chicks hanging around at new world park. i gotta get out from home often.

the venue that we performed today at new world park was nice with nifty shops selling cute stuff, restaurants, hawker center and lots of urbanize modernize arts shop. the other part of the new world park was totally unassuming. i have been to new world park for lunches at the hawker center which is at the back part; the front part is where all the fun is. this is the first time i been to the front part. yeah i know, i suck.

the show started at 1pm. there were a few bands pulling out but most bands made it there.

we performed around 3pm+ with eclipse and it was the HOTTEST show that we ever had in our lives, literally. the stage was HOT HOT HOT… i was sweating like a pig. it was ECLIPSE last show with 6 of us on stage: uglymen + yuna + fenn + ucl. it was strange playing at 3pm+ under a hot roof.

as i said, the event was well organized. when it came to our UGLYMEN performance at around 8.30pm, our gig was cut short to 3 songs due to insufficient time. it was really a sad blow to us cause we wanted to end our show with SI AI BIN and someone wanted us to play “PHAK CHUI CHENG” (different version of CIAK KAKI) but i guess we have to abide by the rules cause if we were to perform another song, it will push the other bands further late at nite. we bite the bullet and stopped at 3 songs. sad. even sadder, our sound in the house was bad; according to our friends who watched us, the bass sound was covering the whole band and 2 of our songs were humming from start till finish. we only get a decent sound at the 3rd song (last song). it was kinda pulled us down, mentally. we looked forward to this gig very much and we wanted to do our best but the house sound was killing us. sigh…

but surprisingly, the crowd was responsive and we had great time talking to them… it was so NICE to hear them “BOOO” us, bwahahaha… what ticks us is that, we love the crowd response… either its screaming or jeering or laughing… it just feels so nice; it beats everything else. uglymen would like to sincerely thank the CROWD!!! nothing beats a smiling face when we see one on stage. it makes us extremely grateful that our little music and antic made someone’s little moment a little bit cheerful. its INSPIRING.

anyway, we got to meet up with old friends, i.e. glacius, ying kit, moe, cheang hui (you are the BEST guy around), cheong of swearwood, COMA band, schizzow, wai kong, mei yi, NAO band and lots of other friends who i can’t recall right now (forgive me if i left out your names; you know we love you guys). i won’t mention our current friends cause they are always the coolest to be around. thanks to the organizers and sponsors for making this possible. we made new friends; oh! and thanks to teresa (of happy crew) for being a great chat while i was waiting for ocean of fire to finish their show. a BIG BIG BIG thank you to kelvyn yeang of ocean of fire for inviting us to play at HAPPY SATURDAY. hey kelvyn, nice work on organizing this event even though things may not be 100% smooth but still the crowd participation really made our day wonderful.

at each of these gigs, it was total fun to meet up with lots of friends who share the same passion in music. we can talk the whole about music and nothing else… well of course, we’ll mention some girls though.

and if i heard correctly from kelvyn, this HAPPY SATURDAY gig is gonna be made as a quarterly event. well, let’s keep our fingers crossed and pray for sponsors generosity so that free music and art are made possible to all of us to discover and enjoy. there are more to pop/commercial music and arts out there; let’s give the society some undiscovered, talented and creative music and arts to savour.

p/s: i just loved michael’s blond hair… kekeke… he looked so kurt cobain… hehehe

Soundman is playing a big important role. I really hope to see a good soundman.

So swt i had to come back to Cosmo T_T…

    hope u guys enjoyed yesterday..

  • taisuan // Nov 18, 2007 at 1:00 pm

boo2, it will be fun if u were there.

all bands are at the mercy of the soundman. for instance, PAKU band is supposed to be a great sounding band but the guitarist (guy) standing on the left was covering the whole band it SOUNDED very BAD, to be honest.

all of us looked forward to PAKU but the guitar really turned us off. we were so excited when they went on stage. his sound (when playing alone) sounded great (overdriven and raw) but when the band played, the sound went downhill. it just hurt our ears. again, i believe they are experience enough to have great sound on stage. its just the house sound that was killing our ears. :( but the gears on stage were great stuff.

Oh no .. there goes my shots for Michael darling only :(

Gah.. oh well, better luck next time.

Paku was that bad? I never knew. I’ve seen them play a few times this year, and I think they have a good sound on stage. Also very good stage presence too ..

Oh well.. I heard there was a major feedback during your performance from my friends? Was it because of the amp or something? Buhhh ..

    My eyes bengkak la!

  • taisuan // Nov 18, 2007 at 8:10 pm

glacius, PAKU performance was good if you focus on their playing and try to filter the unbalanced sound. the guitarist had great marshall tone on stage but once the sound was released to the house speakers, it went downhill, my ears hurt. i was so so eager to see them play.

    aiyaa….y memory card damage ar?
but still can recover ar? try to find some software should be able to recover

  • Glacius // Nov 19, 2007 at 1:56 am

what happened to your memory card wei? Gahhh.. guess all the other band’s pictures are down the drain too.. I wanted to see what happened since i can’t watch it with my eyes T_T

    oooh goodness me..

Taisuan: Which guitarist of Paku? Leena or Riz of Paku, yeh? Riz is insane though..usually for his gigs, he would bring 4 x 1 mini marshall amps, mic all of them up, then daisy chain all of them together …very very thick distortion sound and I can go nuts listening to them on their heavy songs wei.. very crunchy distortion.. yumm..

  • Glacius // Nov 19, 2007 at 1:57 am

MICHAELLllllllllllllllllllllllll!!! I can’t wait to see you all soon again laaaah T_T.. I’m comin home to pg next sunday XD wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • taisuan // Nov 19, 2007 at 8:33 am

hey rambo, u think some software able to read the card? like putting the card into a reader and slot in to the USB port of PC/notebook?

hey schizzow, is it my headset mic that is giving the problem? if it does, @#$%^&*. by the way, i’m using shure headset mic (dynamic), its much cheaper than a condenser mic; do u think dynamic mic has tendency to hum more? cause ALL our previous gigs did not have this problem (my headset mic didn’t hum all the way). if u know anything about sound, let us know. thanks man!!!

  • taisuan // Nov 19, 2007 at 8:48 am

glacius, the PAKU guitarist is a guy… i think it will be riz then… yes, he GOT great marshall distortion sound but the sound in the house was bad. we seldom see people use direct marshall overdriven tone… it was thick and creamy.
