Friends, its time for me to write again… I think its the right time to put this title up and let all the friends read on.
Me, hang around with this band uglymen quite sometimes, seeing them went up and then down and then UP again; this writting is all base on my personal feeling, thoughts and nothing to do with the band uglymen.
I still recall the “hard & heavy” gig which was held…when??? F!!! I had forgotten what year…it was long long long time ago; that was the first uglymen gig that I attended!!! During that time, it was 4 members. My feeling towards them was like these guys really rocking my world off… I still young at that time and head banging all the way, yes all the way. And the next following days plus I guess a week time or more, my neck couldn’t move smoothly….was like a robot….if you never head banging in a rock concert and head bang for the first time then you will feel what I feel during that time.
My thoughts was I couldn’t find a band like them, really know how to rock, kick my ass off with their axes and by their music/performance on the stage. And you know what??? Many of their songs are original!!! self compose!!! During that time I only know Suan, and not very friend with MIke and Metal.
Our relationship since that day growing, each time uglymen got gig or jamming I will try my best to go and watch them; only in recent, I dedicated most of my time in my biz miss quite a bit of ugly gigs…
I have to skip skip and fastforward***long story***… then once, I heard a broken heart news…Suan told me…beh uglymen maybe will stop rite there and no more… I was like what are you talking about?? why?? You got so big head you could solve anything what…why you said this kind of shitty shit to me??? They were facing one of their member leaving the band for some reasons….
During that time I was looking at them and thinking that could be the end of uglymen the band… Then suddenly the big head stand out and be a drummer of uglymen, so uglym4n became uglym3n. Big head play guitar for ten years plus and know nothing about drumming and throw away things that he was good at and pick up things that he was completely new at….this is real challenge for him and its a very brave move to him…
Guess what, after pratice for couple months I went to KL with them for their virgin uglym3n gig, if not mistaken I think it was called “live gig 7″, soundwall was the organisor that time… They sound like shit!!! where was the uglymen??? Ppl were asking??? where is uglymen???
Uglym3n have the thought of maybe they want to end the band, due to they really couldn’t play with the new drummer. Hooi was told to find a new drummer for replacement and ask Suan play guitar back; becoz’ Suan couldn’t play the drum and Mike couldn’t use his guitar playing to support the songs; they did looking for one but couldn’t find the right one. then back to the starting point where they had started…luckily they couldn’t find the replacement and keep on going, its the hardest time for uglymen during that time; they even push away some gigs at that time…
Suan really work his ass off; I never seen such person that so tough in my life; things that he want to get it done sure he will work his ass off and till he gets to the points “done”. I think that’s why he gotten a big head!!! so hard and tough!!!
Today, when I look up uglym3n, they are back and can kick ass!!!
When in uglym4n’s era, they got a lot of things to care; concern of. Like playing gig, songs choice, style, and they couldn’t move or make the decision right the way. Now, uglym3n, a lot easier then when it was uglym4n. Less members, less worries, less conflit, everything less so a lot easier for them in decision making.
Musicwise, Uglym4n’s era, they play the same things again and again and again and again… boring man, that’s how I feel about it if compare to uglym3n….uglym3n they are moving forward in creating new sounding, dance and anything they could think of and come out with, some are really wild and crazy yet funny also, like the recent’s ugly dance….

exDrummer Vs newDrummer
The Drummer got different in attitude; new one always read up a lot of things and find out how to use the new toys, gears or new ways to improve the ugly music or live performance. New drummer had read up a lot of books about drumming, if you got a chance please pay him a visit; he had bought a lot of DVDs, zines, books and seek for improving in his drumming. The old one sad to say it, but it’s true, I never seen him buying things or come up something new while he was in the band. That’s why I said it’s different in attitude… Wtih the new drummer’s attitude I believe you guys will enjoy alot coz’ he always come out new things in his playing.
Uglym4n Guitarists Vs Uglym3n Guitarist
Mike’s guitar tone still cannot beat Suan’s…But mike is getting there…Dun forget now mike it’s playing the rhythym and lead and singing at the same time; this is also a challenge for him. If talking about guitar, mike’s tone got great improvement!!! At very least he knew how to make his guitar sing, cry, scream and shout now….last time, mike’s guitar know only how to shout…
Uglym4n Bassist Vs Uglym3n Bassist
hmmm…Metal’s bass got improve from the past also but not much…For me Metal got great improvement in singing; since uglym3n only have 3 members left; he got no choice but to take up some singing part!! which is good for him coz’ he can get alot of chicks!!!
Uglym4n Vs Uglym3n
Uglym4n = 4, uglym3n =3(easy for me)… 4 noise, 3 more clean in music(playing live); 4 more boring, 3 more interesting. 3 now keep improving and their music more dynamic; I would describe it got more muscle then 4’s era. I perfer 3’s…3 of coz’ more kick and rock then 4’s….

Suan told me about not to give up easily…and today Suan had proven to me that want to be a sucessful man/woman in your life you are not allow to quit…have to keep it up and moving forward no matter how hard it is… If you quit, you are the loser!!! you lose all and game over!!!

No matter how many times you write about this, no matter how many times readers of Uglymen.net are bored of reading this, I, like you, will never forget seeing and going through with Uglymen in their darkest period.
By the way, Hard & Heavy gig was on the 1st of May, 2004. Kekeke. I was there standing behind with Hooi’s ahem all the way from ahem, saw you headbanging non stop in front. Kekeke.

What i want from Uglymen for FY08…
1) Cut “some” EP or Album in FY08
2) Mikey to be able to make important decisions- importantly.. be a MAN!
3) Ah hooi to get a Gf/Bf - whatever…
4) Tighter relationship with the fans!
5) Contribute to society! be it charity .. etc etc
6) Allow fleaman to play/jam once in a while ;P (also play fleaman selected songs, ya!)
7) Uglymen to have an interview wth Radio Station
9) Groom more local bands, with your talent.. its an obligation to pass on the baton!
10) Happy Chinese New year to Uglymen and Uglymen’s fans.. !

It’s encouragement for anyone here for not giving things up easily…Uglymen is one of the good example.
Nowadays, you see one band form, the next one break up…and very few band like uglymen…still rocking hard and keep it up…
Suan tought me alot of things not juz guitar, music, alot of things you know…he is like my big brother…whenever I encounter problems, like in biz….thinking in giving up, he is the one that encourage me go on and move further…
Also I think uglymen is a good example band for all the new bands to look up and a role model…it’s not about the skills, playbablity but the ATTITUDE….
Uglymen at today’s achievement it ain’t easy you know…you know one…kekekekeke…

yo beh, nice write-up.
this band has given us so much hope and dreams. and if it moves someone, we are excited. because we are doing this for the love of music.
whether its giving a person inspiration to do things better, or whether its pissing a person to do things better, it actually “moves” things around.
the things that we do may not be someone’s cup of tea because we taste like coffee to someone else.
i missed playing the guitar especially standing beside michael because we missed fooling around on stage. now, i’m at the back of the stage sitting on the drum throne. its kinda weird for me to interact as michael and ah hooi had to turn their back when they need to talk to me.
having played in a 3-piece setup gave us so much freedom of expression with less confrontation. ideas moved easily, decisions made quicker and same interest in the music genre that we are playing.
being in a 3-piece band is quite easy and relaxing. u can’t believe HOW MUCH TENSION FREE it is.
fleaman, i love your point #5. we always try to achieve it whenever possible. the smile from others beats everything.
ah beh, u kick ass. i learnt new things. going to share with u tonite when we meet. u will love it. just remind me about it. its such a BIG F*KING complement to say that i can solve anything. it gives me inspiration to achieve it but i’m not super human. i wish i am, though. i’ll try my best. u know what? when i see your business grow, i felt a sense of achievement because our little band motivates and helped u *around* with your business. and i can see it’s now growing. i can’t wait when u make millions, build a studio and let us jam in there!!!

Prior to 4 pieces.. pre-uglymen also played in 5 piece before too… those old folks like mikey n tai suan.. knows…! hahahahaah…. got to sack.. means got to sack…! but they do it in a diplomatically manner…! hahahahahaah….
anyway… just move forward.. n be all u can be!
FY08 is a very good year.. with minor hiccups on the recession and also election coming up!

fleaman, what u wrote up there — i agreed to everything cause its what we want to do… and we hope this year we can do it. our time (daytime job) is quite limited but we try to make full use of it.
u can sure come and jam with us.
the ROBOT clip in youtube is quite old. i wish someone record the latest one because its different now. the feel is different. its DEFINTELY very different.

last tuesday nite their jamming day, I went there and watched them… They play new beyond cover, the great wall; which is really kick!! Also look at the silverIsle jamed with uglymen their tune “robot” wow!!! really kick also!!!
it makes me wanna work hard on my guitar!!! it’s like a motivation to me watching a little girl play uglymen’s song so nice so kick!!! you have to check the clips later on, on youtube..hopefully they will upload it opn youtube so that you can check on this chicks how kick she is…..
