For the first time in kedah, a total of 8 bands combined to bring out the best ever Ghost Festival celebration in alor star, over 7 hours of rock music for the appreciative crowd. again, thank you to ah hwa (Billows’ bassist) for giving me the chance to organise the band shows. it was a great success thanks to every one.

“the Ugly Dance”

my inspiration of creating an intro dance for Uglymen came from watching a japanese band “Hotdog Buddy Buddy”. but i thought of making it funnier and crazier rather than just swaying around, so there you go, super hiao faces and dance moves with a new melody to accompany with. the voice which introduces uglymen is Ric Tan, the guy who said MU will white wash Newcastle 6-0 before the match. The dance is certainly a breakthrough for Uglymen. for your information, we did the dance for the first time in Taiping gig, back then, the banner was a combination of 22 A4 papers coloured with marker pens and correction pen (liquid paper)… i am currently desiging new dance steps…

at Number 7~
“Speakers, Performer, Judges, Guest…”

Actually there is nothing to shout about being a speaker or judge, but behind the scene, to me is quite important, as i am not upgrading through an academic source, like attending college or workshops, one of the many ways to always improve myself and make myself aware that i am not good enough, is to speak about music infront of many attentive ears. in order to say something really useful and relevant to the anticipating crowd, i have to equip myself with loads of knowledge and updates, making sure i am always ahead of them. Meanwhile, november 2007 was the 15th time i was luckily to be invited to judge a music competition, 7 times being in Yamaha Asian Beat, missing out as judge of the national finals last year was a pain (collided with Happy Saturday show). As a judge, you look at a band differently compared to normal audience, you look into every aspect, and you see all super mind-blowing bands perform, and it often reminds me of how much i have not achieved, and a lot of hard work to be done to always upgrade uglymen and myself. In addition, you get to know new pro-musicians friends, and learn many tricks in the trend as well.

“Fever Pub Gig and Jit Sin Merdeka Tour”

The reason i put the Fever gig and BM gig higher than Taiwan Springscream was bcos we had much more crazier crowd in kuching and bm, and they really appreciate our music and drove us to go crazier in our shows. Fever pub was crazy bcos i had never seen before SO MANY cameras flashing when u are performing, not to mention those DSLR… haha…. for a splilt second, we felt like super stars on stage (look carefully where was Charlene looking while the bloggers were snapping photos in the 1st pic.. kekeke)…. While in BM back in August 2007, the crowd in Jit Sin was super crazy where you can see people carrying guys pushing them around on top of their heads.. eh we have a term in calling that act? i duno…
But…. the craziest crowd should still go to UpLift Da Fusion, thanks to ah hui and gang, back in 2006.

“Youtube videos…”

i started uploading videos on youtube only last year… ya, kindof outdate compared to others… anyhow, started to make videos, and the video i made were not really “dashhhhhyat” one, just nice melodies with nice tones. and most importantly, can promote uglymen’s video on line lo! off course all the kind comments left by youtube users are very very inspiring and motivative too! Thus far, i have only uploaded not many, if time allows, i still owes GNAP an acousitc video… haha… but not master of puppet.. sorry loh guys, i tried listening to it many times and just couldnt enjoy…. guess i am not very metal kua… Below are my more satisfied video… eh.. at least to me la…

at Number 4~ “Students’ Music Exams, 100% record”

to make it sound not so hao lien, i wil make it short, from the frist day i enrolled my students for music exams back in 1998, there is NO failure until today. Roughly remembered: piano (39 candidates), guitar (60 candidates). Highlighting Chan Qi Sheng and Muhd Taufik being the first students to obtained distinction (piano) in Kedah for Rock Music School (2007, started teaching Rock Music School Syllabus in Kedah in 2007) and back in 1999 Lim Boon Kee as the first student to obtain distinction in guitar (Penang) for AMU. However, failures are expected no matter how good you teach or how good your students are… we’ll see who’s the unlucky number one…

I want to thank ah thye for calling me into this band (although he still wants me to play keyboard.. leh mah), he always says i play better keyboard than guitar, i think i play best is FIFA 2008 la…. kanneh… After joining this band, i learnt many stuff which are all impossible to read from text book… haha. Its a real fun to play with them though i sometimes really tired running around with two bands…. like the juz-ended gong xi fa cai carnival… Thanks again to all the wonderful musicians Boon, Hwa, Thye, Foo~ Billows.

at Number 2~ M1 the Ultimate Guitar

M1 = michael 1, the parts i also not really remembered from where liao… only notably pickups from Australia kinman, nut from US earvana, bridge and ports from US callaham, pickguard jacks from US clayton. VERY VERY VERY VERY light body (u have to carry it to blif) bcos i ordered it thinner than standard strat, the bridge is fixed, and to be honest, this is the BEST guitar i’ve ever played, bcos it was customed to my playing needs and within my ability, and also my favourite woody colour no matter is sunburst or one tone, i like wood colour. Though, i still have some very very personal favourites besides M1, Washburn N4 is still my favourite, but i have to change the super heavy pickups b4 i can play them again. Then, if its possible for me, i like to lay my hands a Fender Aerodyne and Parker Fly, Les Paul also not bad… eh… think think…. M1 still the best, far far better than any of the above… probably not to others, but to my needs, yes.

“Uglymen’s 14th year in the making”, its all about music and friendship, and….. bringing joy to others by spreading all our ugly recipies to friends and supporters… Uglymen is important to me bcos i treat them like family, like maybe tomorrow (saturday) i go visit Suan, and pls get ready your BIG FAT red packet filled up with hot hot cash for me! WAHAHAHAHA!!
