Just now, my friend requested me to transfer Uglymen’s song to her phone. Then she played all the 5 songs (I only have 5 songs in my phone): 1) Si Ai Bin 2) Ciak Ka Ki 3) Bubble Tea 4) Missing U 5) Sor Lou. Then I asked her which song is nice. The answer is Si Ai Bin, then Bubble Tea ….kekeke….ok..let me have a poll here for all Uglymen songs.
Here the result:

Oh, and another burned copy, put in car since first day never take out even after I left for Aus. =P

melody: bubble tea
lyrics: last flight
arrangement: robot
overall: bubble tea
i wish to write more songs like bubble tea, if my talents allow. but i guess its tough to beat the bubble as i tried to write another nice pop before (my sky) and ended up like a “peace-no-war” song. i dont think i can write another love song to beat bubble… i would say “missing you” also has good melody but bubble still the best
last flight is the most meaningful song in the album and after completing the lyrics, i thought it was wonderful and i kept reading / editing it many times before it was finalized. best thing is, the lyric goes well with the melody plus the airport special effect
robot is no doubt the best-arranged song in the CD. i also love the arrangement of si ai bin and the piano part of take my hand.
how i wish the 2nd album would turn out as good as the first if it wouldnt be better….
hmm…..
-Chun weI- // Mar 31, 2008 at 8:56 am
erm… for me i think si ai bin is the best… followed by robot. hahah..
like the arrangement of these 2 songs very much.

After listening to the whole album again last night when I was supposed to study for my test today, kekeke, I would like to add a new personal favourite of mine.
Recording wise: Si Ai Bin
I was using in-ear earphones. With the addition of synthesizer during the recording, fooooo, totally love the mixing of this song!
michael // Mar 31, 2008 at 1:03 pm
one thing i wanna mention is song number 7 “dont leave me”… i think we did a bad job… that song was written by kenny, he emailed us the mp3 in raw, and we arranged it into a song….i still think the way he sings 10 times better than me…
if got chance, u must listen to kenny’s original raw file….
sHaOwEiz // Mar 31, 2008 at 10:33 pm

ok la… i teach you robot some time in the not-so-near future lo… when u finally built up all the essential skilss…
SilverIsle // Apr 1, 2008 at 2:18 am
If you want to learn it faster, before you actually need to build up all the essential skills, buy a plane ticket to Aus will do, he will immediately teach you then. =P
Glacius // Apr 1, 2008 at 4:23 am
I sipeh gay..you knwo which song i like. .ahaha..but i mounted the whole album onto my ipod liao… getting some practice lol
Glacius // Apr 1, 2008 at 4:26 am
Btw, the mixing for “robots r us” could use more kick .. don’t mind me, but I feel that some parts are missing of a lot of kick.. urg
don’t mind me.. I got influenced by a lot of productions, and not music.. ahhahahaahaha
Glacius // Apr 1, 2008 at 4:29 am
And I have Waves Diamond Bundle VST/RTAS plugins for Windows! Doesn’t work on Vista because microsoft is stoopid. And doesn’t work on Mac because it’s not a *.dmg file ..
anybody wants?!
PS. For vocals: look out for Melodyne. I can’t seem to use this programme cos I’m running on Vista..quite buggy, but on Windows Vista and lower (best is still XP), I think it would be quite smooth..
Melodyne is an auto-tuning programme.. can be used as a standalone programme and a plugin to your personal DAW.. It’s quite good to tune natural sounding recordings..
Glacius // Apr 1, 2008 at 4:43 am
paiseh; will give my thoughts about the songs:
melody: domido
arrangement: si ai bin
lyrics: I can’t really judge this one. I love the ideas being put to all songs..
favourite rhythm guitar riff: bubble tea (hohoho..)
favourite solo: Tai Suan & Michael in robots r us
Drums: si ai bin
bass: tied between robots r us & bubble tea
overall: .. bubble tea! I can never learn tai suan’s finger twisting guitar ‘chords’ lah .. play like jimi hendrix at some parts only.. urgh
gnap // Apr 1, 2008 at 9:15 am
My fav song is Bubble Tea, bcos of the guitar and Michael sounding so lum.
The song that altered my taste in music is Si Ai Bin. Turned me into a Hardrock fan, this song. And i agree on the drums for SiAiBin. So yeng. Everything about it i love, including the multi-language lyrics.
A lot more of Uglymen music that i like but too long story to tell here….
SilverIsle // Apr 1, 2008 at 11:45 am
Glacius, yepz, I totally agree with you on the Robot mixing part, and I think Uglymen felt the same too when they first heard it if I’m not mistaken.
So, watch live je lar! =P
P/S: And I see no road what you wrote in your 3rd comment about the plugins thingy. LOLz.
P/P/S: Why didn’t myself have a copy of your singing video! Argh. Else I would have posted it long ago dy. =P He xia le pao mo cha~
michael // Apr 1, 2008 at 1:35 pm
glacius….
the plug in things, hmmm…eh…oh….good to know that u r into many stuff, i might consult you on newer software stuff as i am pretty out dated already
bubble tea guitar chords, like jimi hendrix… huh?
gnap…
yeah…bubble rules… bloop bloop bloop….
kesian last flight… no body voted….
i would like to start off something if anyone wish to care…how about your least-liked song in the album… haha…
for some reason, i think is bcos of the mixing, i dont like Fool (Sor lou), whenever my CD reaches that song, i just switched to the next song (Dont Leave Me)….
Hmm….
silver…
“buy a plane ticket to Aus will do, he will immediately teach you then. =P”
wat does the sentence mean oh…?
taisuan // Apr 1, 2008 at 4:00 pm
glacius, hey bro… regarding the bubble tea, i can show u how to play it. its very easy. there’s a lot of short cuts in there u will laugh when i tell u
SilverIsle // Apr 1, 2008 at 8:53 pm
michael…
I am referring to myself, that I suck, but still get the chance to learn Robot without building up all the essential skills yet, just because I bought a plane ticket to Aus (which means, leaving to Aus). =P
taisuan…
I want to learn too! =D Make a tutorial and post it here lar.
taisuan // Apr 1, 2008 at 9:50 pm
oi… i cannot write the tutorial lah… very difficult lah…. it will blur my eyes only. i’d rather teach to ANYONE for FREE than writing the TABS out.
who wants to learn LOVE BUBBLE TEA guitar part for FREE? leave a note here.
hey glacius, where the f* r u?
SilverIsle // Apr 1, 2008 at 10:02 pm
I want! I want! End of this year (most probably). That’s a promise k. Put me in your list. LOLz.
P/S: Jangan-jangan by then you gotta go play keyboard for Uglymen pulak. =P
taisuan // Apr 1, 2008 at 10:52 pm
yeah, my time is booked for you.
in order for you to kickstart to play this song, you can start to practise playing barre chords and picking with your fingers. then when i show you the chords, you will play it with ease.
i guarantee you that when you know how to play this song, you will feel that you achieve something already. the song is not hard but the complex fingering (which is easy) is very eye-candy.
i am picking up my guitar slowly but can’t really fully focus on it cause my recent work has taken up most of my time including weekends. its about 11pm and i’m still at work now.
taisuan // Apr 1, 2008 at 10:54 pm
kaneh…. i hope i dont switch instrument again… its such a pain and sad in the ass having to leave something that you love behind. i am getting a lot of satisfaction play the drums and have achieved some small small things but have to stop halfway.
switching instruments is a pain.
dont try that unless you want to play various instruments or want to be an arranger.

Now, again after listening to the whole album, I think I am able to answer Michael’s question - my least like song.
Well, the reason is unknown, but I realise I seem to skip Eat Yourself the most, and repeat Last Flight the most. Haha.
michael // Apr 2, 2008 at 5:05 am
true…. i do skip eat yourself too sometimes…
sHaOwEiz // Apr 2, 2008 at 10:51 am
eh eh !
chiak kaki and si ai bin were my dad’s favourite track leh.
he like the lyrics and the music. wkakaa.
Glacius // Apr 2, 2008 at 10:54 am
Silverisle: Hahaha.. YEAH! The live performances usually rock damn hard. I wonder if I’ll be able to watch them play with the new drummer, yeah? I hope to..
And like usual la.. Those people who don’t mess around with recording or understand the stage of mixing will get lost in whatever I say cos.. It’s a different field? Although what I know is..very VERY basic.. But I jump straight into the goldmine, if you get what I mean!! hahahaha
And I would want the video too! So I can laugh at myself for going out of tune..bwahahahaha
Michael: No problem if you need to ask me more regarding the softwares or whatever it is.. my laptop’s being a stationed machine which is only known to download.. files. So I might get a lot of junk from time to time. Regarding the plugins and all, I’ve been working with a friend of mine regarding music, and I’ve been meeting people. I went to TwoAm Studios @ Bangsar (Jaclyn Victor, Ferhad goes there and record their stuff..and there is this guy by the name of Anton..award-winning music arranger and guitarist goes to/owns the studio) and The Ark Studios @ TTDI .. Both of these places have this slight connection with music producer, Nick Lee. So ..I kind of learn a little bit of some programmes, techniques, and stuff that relates to recording.. It’s like heaven I tell you! But the catch is; THEIR studio time is not cheap..
(Imagine la ..wanna do 1 song already RM3,500)
I just completed 36.65 gbs of downloads last night..after 6 months! Sipeh happy..now at home not so bored liao..
Right now, I would gladly recommend Propellerhead Reason 4.0 if you’re interested in arrangements or music production! But it takes up too much resources, so if you want something that still works well, Reason 3.0 would do for Windows.. I’m using Vista 64-bit w/ 2GBs of DDR RAM and .. I’m lagging while doing music. It’s not Reason’s fault..but something else more.. obvious.
Since Reason 4 can automate the song to change time signature and tempo (finally!!!) in between a song, I’d say it turned more powerful. Still got a lot more to learn.. I’ll probably have to have babies, send them to Boston and make them learn Reason from Berklee’s MusicCollege then ask them to teach me.. lol
Now, I’m downloading a drum machine called BFD.. I’m sure you heard of it? I’m downloading the 2nd DVD at the moment..each DVD is about 4 ~ 4.7gbs large.. I’ve messed around with BFD before. It’s pretty good, I must say. Live samples of Tama/Pearl drum kits of many sizes, having the ability to adjust the room size for the “drum recording”, having the ability to add as many cymbals as you want, and having the ability to add Zildjian/Sabian cymbals (There’s still many more I think?) from 14inch crash to 24inch ride cymbals and so on.. BFD is kind of famous, so I think you should know about that one?
I just watched a Steve Vai ProTools interview on youtube.com .. I see that he uses Native Instrument’s Battery 3 for drum/percussion loops. My friend from Full Sail says that this plugin is quite good? And if it’s from Native Instruments, I’d say it must be bloody darn good.. Just that it takes up..oh, I don’t know.. ONLY 14gbs of the HDD JUST to install the programme?!?!?!?!?!
But I’m not downloading that plugin just yet. Got too many stuff I wanna download off the net.. like Dream Theater’s Live in Budokan DVD.. Though I still prefer their “Scenes From A Memory” album, but commercialised heavy metal is… still good -lah-. haha
And yep! Jimi Hendrix chord. I remember reading Fender’s 50th anniversary book ..there was this interview with Eddie Kramer, I think? Jimi Hendrix’s sound engineer/producer I think.. he said that Hendrix used to play chords by using all 4 fingers and his thumb to hit the bass notes or something. I still remember that the way Tai Suan play bubble tea..there’s that !#%&!@#&$!$#!^&$@#$ thumb bass note that I duno how to play.. finger wanna crack if I wanna try playing that.
And..I kind of agree with you regarding “sar lou” though.. not exactly fond of that song, but I like it live. I don’t know. I like to listen live recordings compared to studio albums for some bands.. As per Dream Theater, I’m listening to live albums so I can detect John Petrucci’s live mistakes! So far, I spotted 2 audible mistakes! Nyehehehehehehehehehehe
TaiSuan: I’m still studying in KL..selangor..PJ..whatever you call this place, but I’m studying in KDU PJ, that’s for sure. I won’t be back in Penang anytime soon cos I just got a job in Starbucks .. Will be working nearly everyday after class..from 6pm - 11.30pm.. wanna work for $$ and get a Line6 TonePort UX1, MacBookPro (17inch one..still considering..damn pek chek wanna do music with 14.1 inch laptop..!%!^#@$&!@^!@#), Yamaha keyboard for music production, and money to support uglymen in buying more of their T-shirts!! I still want my T-shirt and i haven’t got the time to go back to pg to collect it! ..aiyo..
besides that, I really wanna learn the proper version of love bubble tea.. My chord “vocabulary” isn’t that wide..very limited..would want to expand my chord knowledge very soon .. but I’m learning too many thigns to catch up with what I REALLY want.. argh
…what a long post.. oops..lol
Glacius // Apr 2, 2008 at 11:01 am
My super long post disappeared.. knn
Glacius // Apr 2, 2008 at 11:05 am
Silverisle: Yep! Always loved Uglymen live! they’re the bomb, seriously. Bands (like mine) who go on stage and stand like a stick for half an hour while playing music, should learn from Uglymen and rock the stage. HAHAHAHAHA
And regarding the plugins, it’s the usual as I would post in my Multiply blog..but now switching to http://mglacius.blogspot.com regarding about music experiences and work, I guess? And like usual..if people don’t know about a certain field of a subject, of course they wouldn’t know about what’s going on! Talk to me about how a clutch in a car or a bike works, and I’ll be lost already. But I’m learning about it, though. Haha.
And I want those videos! Would want to watch myself destroy and mic and people’s ears by going out of tune so many times. lol
Glacius // Apr 2, 2008 at 11:18 am
Michael: Sure thing! If I can help you regarding the softwares, I would gladly help you. I’ve been working with a friend/boss of mine regarding music production. Very easy MIDI stuff .. Nothing special .. Just recently, I did a remix track for him that suits the clubbing environment, I think? That’s what he wanted..so orders are orders.. haha.
Working with him, I get to meet people and head to recording studios. One of them would be TwoAm Studios @ Bangsar (http://www.twoam.com.my) .. A well-known Malaysian arranger goes there.. He goes by the name of “Anton” .. I saw his awards in the studios, and honestly, I nearly died on the spot. A lot of local artists go to this studio; like Jaclyn Victor and Ferhad.. The land, equipments, sound libraries, MacPros (no Windows there!), equipments, imported guitars and basses..makes the house-converted-into-studio worth millions of ringgit! ugh.
I also went to another recording studio so far.. It’s in TTDI, and goes by the name of The Ark Studios. If you know the famous producer, Nick Lee, then this is his studio. Used to be his personal studio until he found some business partners, I guess?
So it’s through the recording sessions that I learnt about what’s right and what’s not. And it’s through the mixing sessions that I learn regarding the plugins that’s available in this world.. the GOOD ones of course. Haha
So far, I’ve been downloading nonsense via torrents off the net. I’d say that they are missing of the really good stuff. I just downloaded Propellerhead Reason 4.0 .. It’s quite good despite the increased requirements.. My 2gb DDR RAM Vista 64-bit lags whenever I have Reason opened with other programmes .. There’s time signature and tempo automation and a whole new interface to produce music with.. it’s quite fun, but I have yet to learn regarding time signature changes .. Guess that’s why I’m influenced by Dream Theater these few weeks?
There’re a couple of programmes which are good. Instead of Reason, I heard that Cubase is good. I’m not sure how it works, but people who used it says that it’s good. .so..it’s good then!
One of the programmes, I’m sure you all heard of it when it comes to drum programming, is BFD. I’d really recommend that. I slightly messed around with it, and I think it’s extremely practical. Like the UX1 TonePort plugin thing, you’re able to set the size of the room, types of drum kits (Tama..Pearl..etc), numbers of cymbals, the type of cymbals, the sizes of cymbals (14 - 27 inch cymbals available from Zildjian, Sabian, etc I think) .. Besides that, I saw this ProTools interview by Steve Vai.. He uses Native Instruments’ Battery 3.. It has really good percussion/drum loops on it, but the problem is..it tkaes up about 14gbs of your HDD regardless if you’re running on Mac or Windows.
But there’s plenty of nonsense to sample around with!
Anyways, I still don’t know much, but I would want to learn more.. still checking around for good studio stuff..then i’ll get a new laptop, bum it with 4gbs, have windows XP installed (because Vista is hopeless for sound engineer/mixing/music production for their ability to make VST/RTAS plugins incompatible in all aspects), and have probably.. 1terabyte of HDD installed if that sort of HDD exists in the first place..lol
But do drop me a line if you need more info. I will try my very best to help out! BEsides, you have my number d what. lol
