a little bit of this and that…

the passed (past? confused) three days was absolute stoooopid, instead of enjoying a 3-day 5th week lay-off, use it to chase songs and practise piano / guitar / mark assignments, i have been sleeping, eating, and watching DVDs… fuck, i want my life back.

(not april fool as claimed by my members) p/s: yesterday, we met a lot of vip in flamengo pub, got one is state deputy CID, ah thye (drummer) introduced me to him… and the first thing he asked me was: “your band won a competition and went to taiwan right?”

today also marked the 5th anniversary of Leslie Cheung’s death, he was such a pure talented singer /musician. A serious lost in the HK music industr, just like the departure of wong ka kui…

after playing in pubs for about two weeks, as i slowly picked up more and more songs (about 100 songs so far), from mainland china, hong kong and taiwan, i noticed one thing…. most modern, recent hong kong pop songs are craps… lame arrangment and stupid melodies…china not bad (some also quite meaningless) and taiwan has MUCH better quality among all, off course we dont compare with the super ang moh kao music and japanese killer songs. The hk glamorous 80’s 90’s has long gone…no wonder my pro musician friend from malaysia working in hong kong told me hong kong music scene is dead. and there is no surprise, most taiwan, hong kong artist employs malaysian musicians for their live show such as the great lewis pragasam, andy peterson….

but wait… hong kong music scene is reviving… thanks to edison, many foreigners now also know about hong kong entertainment industry, bcos through edison, about 13 female stars shone under the spot light liao….

    kekeke…

i am always proud of malaysians musicians. remember a few of those whom we bumped at taiwan airport in 2004? lewis pragasam, andy, jamie wilson, another malay guitarist with round face, guiver?? kam (hooi’s girlfriend) were playing at david tao’s valentine’s concert in taipei. getting malaysians to perform in taiwan is something we DARE to say MALAYSIA BOLEH… as opposed to tossing some roti canai in outer space using my hard earned tax money. kaneh…

but to turn around and think about it. hong kong is such a f*king dog eat dog society that all that is matter to you is money and more money. living in hong kong is expensive. imagine this realistic family: an apartment of 500 square feet in hong kong is a luxury, what the f*?

so… what does that mean? u want to play music? sure… u better make sure the money from playing music can afford u to stay alive. or do like what those people are doing — plagarize current trendy music and produce them to the market. sometimes, these people gotta eat. no choice.

Your life IS in your hand.

… (These three dots represent the very looong rubbish I’ve written but decided to not post it in the end.)

Take a break. Talk to your heart. What’s the purpose of your life? Be yourself, that someone you are really comfortable being in. =)

Yeah.. Uncle Tai Suan has a point there about the music industry. I hate recording labels because of that.. They change our style of music for us whether we like it or not ..

But what other choices do we have when we need to earn money and survive?

That’s why I moved to KL and did something to join the ‘mainstream’ money makers.. accountancy..kekekekekee..

but i’m dying there also lah, so it doesn’t make a difference..what’s important is connections! good ones, too ..
