last nite, i was watching 8TV’s “the legend berus li” with my family: tua pui yin and my daugther ah yang.

after 15 minutes of show, there were advertisements shown on the TV. then there’s this little “positive” advertisement that showed up to tell us to live in frugal. the intention was good but… the advertisement started like this.

a few friends of different ethnic backgrounds malays, indians, mix etc went to a nasi kandar restaurant. they sat at a table. then one of the friends came late. he’s a chinese guy on a motorbike. he joined them at the same table.

they started to order food and drinks. all of them ordered their food and drinks while this late-comer-chinese friend ordered a hot glass of water. their friends were surprised. but he acted cool. then when the orders came, the late-comer-chinese guy brought out a small packet of MILO and pour it into the hot glass of water.

then all his friends were looking at him. then he replied them with something like… “why cannot? we have to save money lah…”

then i turned to my daughter and told her:

“if u go out next time with your friends and got no money to buy drinks, dont order any drinks or food”

“because you will make yourself like an idiot ordering a hot glass of water with your own Milo”

“you better starve than embarrass yourself in front of your friends. your friends will laugh at you like shit because in reality they WILL”

“and your good friends will gossip behind you and give you nick names until you grow up and have kids. and when they see you in 10 to 20 years later, they will still think your brain is something wrong. and when you got together with your friends, one friend will PURPOSELY ask you whether you want a HOT GLASS OF WATER and all your other FRIENDS will shit in their pants laughing at YOU!”
