Sweet guitars, beh. I always loved reading your articles here regarding guitars. And nice added collection.
And regarding the PRS, it might be original Brazillian Rosewood. It is CITES-listed (as mentioned in wikipedia), so it could be one of the last few production models until they secretly use a replacement to save the environment. Also, the Taylor Performance series uses that as well. I forgot which model, but it’s the 2nd most expensive one. Costs about USD$19,000 ++ for it, and they stopped its production due to its abuse in Brazillian Rosewood. My uncle has one of those units, and it’s probably the only one in Malaysia when he brought it back from Bangkok..
But one thing about Brazillian Rosewood. Very good feel and tone for the acoustic guitar that I tested in his house. Very bright, very comfortable. Although the neck was thick, but because of its Brazillian Rosewood magic, it felt like my fingers were running on air, in a way.
But an acoustic guitar, is an acoustic guitar. I’m not sure if the outcome of the sound would be the same on an electric. But then again, it’s a PRS, so it should work just fine
But beautiful KH series you have there.. hehehe.. Sad to say, still owning an Ibanez JEM JR, I’m getting a little bit bored of the Floyd Rose tone already, and the next guitar I’m buying (or building – thanks to inspirations by Kelvyn), will be either a hard-tail or a normal bridge from strats.
And a whole bunch of single-coils as well.
By the way, Kelvyn’s guitar arrived yesterday, and I was there to assist him in assembling the guitars from scratch.. Which includes drilling holes for the screws for the pickguards, the machine heads, and the bridge.
Now got some problems, but being Kelvyn, he’ll troubleshoot those problems soon.
And bloody hell, his guitar looks sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet..
now I wanna build my own guitar as well..
I’m eager to find out how that cry-baby wah from KH sounds like. Should sound really sweet.
When I think of his wah pedal, it reminds me of the S&M concert in 2000 (I think?).. Pretty awesome setup. A rock band with an orchestra. Can’t go wrong with that. Best of both worlds.. Like Dream Theater’s “Score 20th anniversary” as well..
And please do post up some videos! Would love to hear you great guitarists playing. Wakakakaka..
Lastly, a big hello to everybody in Uglymen.net, and a big big happy new year! I’ve been dead busy these few days preparing my trip to Australia due to furthering my studies. To be precise, in Tasmania as well.. Will miss you all..

hey glacius… u really spice up our site with your posting. nice nice… i was salivate over the PRS more than the ESPs.
that brazilian rosewood is the last of its kind in production. PRS claimed that they no longer produce such wood guitars. ah beh got lucky, like getting laid with ms world!
beh // Jan 12, 2010 at 5:53 pm
Glacius,
hey, thanks for you words man!!!
You are right about the rosewood guitar; it has warm and sweet sounding…I met a new friend yesterday while I went to artune for tunning up my guitars. The new friend name “Ping”…He is truely guitar freak and got deep deep deep knowledge about guitar….
He told that my PRS have to keep 5 more years and wait till it get season, then the truely rosewood tone will come out!!!
That PRS is confirmed by our allaDIN its rosewood! I felt lucky also, and luckily got Ang Kong Suan came with me to Davis guitar center and finally I made up my mind in buying this PRS….
You can built your own guitar with your own spec at Artune now; but the parts are all in Fender bases….the body and neck and everything, you name it and they will put out a quote for ya and order for you then built it for you…with affortable price like RM4k plus plus..depending on what type of wood or material you are getting….I feel its cheap and good for our local fellow rockerz…
Tylor made guitar, Angkong Suan started long long long time ago, and me had followed him since then…Now, allaDin with this new friend “ah Ping” even push the limits further..you can come out with your own choice of wood type, neck and etc etc etc..hardware and everything….You could go to artune to look for allaDIN and get yours from em’!!!
Kelvyn, you mention above its Kelvyn YangMangoSteem from Ocean of FIRE????
Great!!! he himself also building up own guitar…that’s really great!!! Happy to hear it!!!
you take care and hope to see more of your reply in uglymen.net soon!!!

Tai Suan: You know my style la. Busy busy for a few months..got time, I’ll come back and check up on this site..always love to see the pictures up and see how you all are doing all together.. I miss you all! Hahahaha..
beh: Yup. KelvynOceanofFire Yeang. Hahaha.. I went to his place again. We spent another 6 hours to finetune the guitar, ensuring the bridge is properly fitted in. The problem here is that he ordered all the parts from different manufacturers, so we had problems putting all the parts together. The bridge was knocking against the inner part of the wood on a whole stretch, so if you were to use the tremolo bar, it won’t stay in tune because the wood blocks the bridge from being back to normal position. In a way, it worked like a rusty floyd rose. Of course, he managed to get it all done and now it works just fine. Not that he uses much tremolo playing, but it’s always satisfying to see it properly done.
The pickguard, the neck, the bridge, the machine heads all gave problems..trying to fit into the body as it was pretty frustrating, but that was what we went through last night.
And at about 5am in the morning today, we spent some time jamming along some songs, to ensure that everything on the guitar is ok. Some bits and pieces still needs improvement, but that’ll do for the moment.
He’s using a bridge (as neck pickup) and mid Fender noiseless pickups and a Dimarzio humbucker (something, can’t remember the model) as the bridge. When we tested it, it has the snappy bright sound of a fender due to the ash-wood and the maple neck. But when he flipped onto the humbuckers, I swear, I heard Paul Gilbert playing the guitar. Parrarel wiring, bros!!!!! The tone was awesome!!
Anyways, I’m going to take some pictures of it tomorrow @ Hard Rock Hotel as he’s playing there 8pm till 11pm. I’ll be testing my brother’s new camera and the whole music entertainment will be my subject to try taking event shots.
And back to the guitars. That’s an interesting fact regarding rosewood guitars. Guess I got 1 more year until my JEM JR gets its tone out right. I thought I was being optimistic regarding it having a different tone over the past months compared to its first days. Guess I’m wrong. It’s just getting better and a bit warmer. Not so stale and heavy as I liked it for minor punk-music.
And thanks to Kelvyn, I doubt I’ll be doing my future guitar in Art Tune. Especially if the parts were to be Fender. Kelvyn popped in the American bridge, which is very wide, along with its tremolo arm, and guess what.. the tremolo arm (the screw part) bengkok already to overexcessive tremolo testing. Now it has a very weird angle on the guitar and it keeps on hitting the knobs when he’s not using it. Lol.. How we’re going to do the guitar would be, get the appropriate tools, order everything through ebay and respective websites, and put everything together.
Also, buying bass frets and replace the frets on the neck I’m going to get for the guitar. Better feel, warmer, fatter tone, and it helps instead of scalloping the neck like Yngwie Malmsteen. I’m not sure when this project’s going to start, but most probably in 2 years time when I start working.
I guess the next best thing is to build guitars ourselves. It’d be “our guitar” instead of playing off someone else’s signature series guitar off the guitar shelves.. Which is a cool thing.
And I can’t stop eyeing on the KH models in this post.. damn, they’re beautiful…

Fleaman,
hahaha..LOL….your words always make me laugh out loud!! I went crazy…I actually over spent!!! now have to drink water only for all of my meals till Chinese New Year….
Glacius,
This is why I ask you go to Artune ask for allaDin to tylor made a guitar for ya.
No Offence, and no doubt kelvyn is a great guitar player but come to tylor made a guitar, it will takes a lot of experience and years of time in experiencement things…Artune’s allaDin, he went thru all this kind of problems that you had mention above from long long long time ago…
If you want to get a tone you want, it is not easy because you have to know what kind of wood work with which type of pickUPs in order to get that kind of tone….its great that if you could come out with you very own guitar…again this is need alot of time and efforts in finding the right spec to fit into the guitar and create the tone you want…
You know why I only use “the ready” fender model guitar to tylor built my own guitar? because I want to reduce the risk that kelvyn had faced…now with allaDin’s service you could even go further, beyond and it will be your very own guitar with the choices of necks and body and wood type you want to built..and allaDin knows it all, you juz tell him what kind of sound/tone you want to get, he will be assist you to get what you want to get…
As for signature series of guitars, they are way over price…because got the artist’s name printed on that guitar….I love to collect limited signature series of guitars, or limited edition guitars..I hope the Ouija and Iron Cross will be limited edition, this is what had happened to my KH2 Vintage…now it becaming mess production not limited edition as it came out in the first place..I hate ESP in doing such kind of shitty things…making the guitar has less collecting value….Pray the Ouija and Iron Cross won’t fall into this kind of situation…
wow…wish I can see kelvyn play in hardrock…but today I have to go outstation for my business trip…send my regards to him if you see him..ask him to keep on rocking!!!!
you too..rockON!!!
regards,
beh

It is true that I cannot doubt Din’s expertise in guitars with his experience. The fella plays with his teeth, for crying out loud! Haha.
But yes, we did go through pretty frustration things when it came to this. But one thing’s for sure, because we already experienced and encountered the problem, everything should be just fine when he attempts to do so again in the near future. At least he knows how is it like.
And hell, it’s going to kill me when I build my first guitar. Research’s up first. Hehehe.
They do such things over at ESP, huh? That’s kind of sad, but yup, hopefully your Ouija and Iron Cross will stay limited. Sounds pretty limited when there’s only 50 of them produced.
But halfway through making the guitar, I thought back about how Leo Fender sat down with his friend, and imagined how he designed the Stratocaster in the 1950′s .. Everything was done by hand, and that must’ve taken a bunch of geniuses to get everything done. Pretty psychotic, really. Makes me wish that I could’ve met geniuses like them back in the old days.. Even if I wasn’t born yet. hahahaha..
Yup, beh. will send your regards to him. I told him about the guitars you bought. Enjoyed discussing about it anyhuus.
I missed out on the KH pedal, btw..Nice design.. I wonder how it sounds like? I’ve been listening to the Jimi Hendrix-2 wah pedal all out of my life. Not that I own one. Heh.

As I replied last message in the rush…and got a lot of typo error..I means spelling..Sorry bro…
What am I trying to say is, Kelvyn is brave to try building the guitar out by himself…and built the 1st guitar always not easy..I means doing things for the 1st time we will always face some problems and maybe failure…this is the learning process…Never try never know right? Its like baby learn to craw before know how to walk and then run….this is part of growing process that we all must go thru…Good for kelvyn!! at least the 2nd guitar if he is going to build in the near future it won’t that hard compore to the 1st one!!
As for the toys, I haven’t got the time to try out..when I tried out at the shop, it sound like Kirk’s wah wah sounding..that was why I bought this wah up… you could read up some reviews about this KH wah in the web…lot of ppl like it…let me try it out then come back here and share with you…
that’s for tonite…rockON bro!!
regards,
beh
Glacius // Jan 14, 2010 at 6:18 am
Well, guys! Kelvyn’s guitar made it public for the first time last night at Hard Rock (as i’m typing this at 6am in the morning..)..
For those who want to see it, I’ve tagged Tai Suan and Michael on Facebook.. So you can check out that there’s a sparkling red strat.. If you all are interested, you all can check their photos and hunt down that Strat and see how is it like through the albums there!!
And yes, that’s right! It inspires me to build my own guitar very soon after ordering all the parts, but my confidence level is very very low when it comes to that. I’m not sure, but I think I might start planning soon!
I think I can feintly remember how KH’s wah sounds like. It’s been a while since I last listened to Metallica. But I’m remembering from the S&M DVD in San Francisco .. Truly amazing performance, and I thought he was using a JH-2 or something. Guess I was wrong. But hell, I love Jim Dunlop pedals! Heee.
Very gien..
Feel like stealing it from you! Hahahahahaha..
God, I really need to adjust back to Malaysian timing..

its great to see finally uglymen dot net finally came back to life. thanks to beh’s thread.
i used to love building own guitars and researching what is best for my playing (but sometimes ending up buying fancy stuff on the outlook but not really what i needed.. hehe)
however, down these years, i mean since 2006, where i started using my M1 (custom made, but not built by me, Din did the building with all the parts imported), i din really read up or analyze anything else after M1. maybe its bcos i love playing it and tot it is best suited me, in addition, if i wanna know any unknown stuff to me, i just sms suan, and he will tell me about it, though his analytical skills has deteriorated a bit after singing the money song for the passed months.
another reason is i havent been seriously practicing guitar for years (playing keyboard now), so, i guess its like a little off the radar now.
nonetheless, i love guitar most and its really eye bobbling smashing to see beh’s collection.
beh u want buy my “so-in-tune” custom double neck ah? hehehe? going cheap only.
beh // Jan 15, 2010 at 2:25 pm
Yes, it back to live, thanks for Glacius and all friends’ replied!!!
I do agree with you mikey….we do not know what kind or type of combination in wood and pickups can generate the tone; Because we all are not expertise in this, so, for me opinion, want to play safe, we could go to Artune and consult Din. Suan lot of times also get Din to advise him regarding things in guitar.
Building guitar is not hard, juz put the parts together and make it sounds..that’s it..but Building a guitar what can generate the tone you want, it is always not easy….
I hope Din can finished up my white fender soon… I put KinMan pickUPs on this baby, and wonder how it sounds!!! I changed everything except the neck and body and machine head… And now waiting the fret wires to be changed…Its settle at Artune now…
I later update a photo of this baby here…

Beautiful collection, beh. Really beautiful.
Sorry for the late reply, guys. I just settled into my Tasmanian home here in Australia. I must say that this is a very quiet place. And there’re quite a bit of nice looking guitars as well, but some costs more than it’s supposed to be compared to Malaysia. Effect pedals of all sort here would be very expensive from my point of view.
Plannign tog et a dreadnaught acoustic just to warm my ffingers up before winter really freezes my bones. Hehehe..
Great guys.. keep on posting up. I would want to learn more as well!
GangBangersCrew // Jan 19, 2010 at 4:58 am
i had a premature ejaculation juz by looking at ur guitars
beh // Jan 19, 2010 at 3:54 pm
GangBangers,
hey, dun be like dat man…I know you are hardcore!!! dun be too extream hardcore…kekekeke..thanks anyway..in here got female viewer you know…and probably many of them are at the age under 21..
Glacius,
thanks for your words… You are in Australia now?? I thought AngMor country the guitars and gadget will be selling cheaping if compare to our country…I think I was wrong then…
The other day juz pluged in the guitars and the toys…I am not really go into them…juz had a soft touch of each of em…..
the 3 ESPs got active pickUPs which is more sensitive and powerful, where as the PRS is in passive pickups, the tone is warm and less power…
Ebony finger board from the two Ouija really made for speed player, first time I play on it..I got this feel..can play fast…I think it is becoz’ of the ebony finger board that came with this guitar… compare with Iron Cross(same pickups, neck EMG 60 and Brigde EMG81)…got different FEEL…
I step on the wah, feel like Kirk’s wah wah…I like it very much…try to play sandman’s solo…can get that kind of kirk wah wah tone…I need to practice becoz’ couldn’t play some part….buy me some more times friend..willl play this song entirely…
I do not have time to go thru it…sorry friends..later, after I play with them for awhile then back with full reviews….
rockON!

Sounds great already! The closest guitar I can touch right now, is the guitar controller for my brother’s PS3.
Yes, I’m at Australia. Believe it or not, it’s expensive here. In US, it’s different then..you can ask Kelvyn about how his friend tested all the DiMarzio pickups in the store before finalising his decisions.. Very cheap there, of course. But it’s not cheap over here, that’s for sure.
But they’ve got more funkier designs compared toMalaysia.. Just thatit’s not worth the buy over here for the moment..
Got RM150 basic kapok guitar also u know.. walaueh…
